Original lithographic poster with art by André Derain for exhibition at Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris 1954.

André Derain was a pivotal French artist, painter, sculptor, and co-founder of the Fauvism movement alongside Henri Matisse. His work is characterized by its bold use of color, innovative composition, and stylistic evolution that spanned several major art movements of the early 20th century. Fauvism was a short-lived movement, but it had a profound impact on the development of modern art, influencing movements such as Cubism and German Expressionism.

By the 1920s, Derain shifted towards a more classical and traditional style, often referred to as "Retour à l'ordre" (Return to Order). His work during this time drew inspiration from the Old Masters, featuring more muted colors and a focus on form and structure.

The piece is framed with a vintage mahogany frame and is placed on a creme background.

H 84 x W 58 cm.
